Fearless Females – Women in STEM CPD event
Wednesday 19th June 2019 – 3-6pm
Two female engineering apprentices from AIM Altitude will be presenting at the Fearless Females, Women in STEM, CPD event at Bournemouth and Poole College on 19th June.
The Continued Professional Development (CPD) event will be held at the STEM Centre at Bournemouth and Pool College in Poole. It aims to inspire young women to consider a career in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), offering careers advice, opening up networks and opportunities, and providing support to challenge non-stereotypical choices.
Ella Nulty and Serena Kolowski are both engineering apprentices at AIM Altitude’s Bournemouth facilities and will be presenting “Girls with Guts”, focusing on the history of women in engineering, showing how far they have come and how far they can go, with key changes. The apprentices will explain their own journeys in the currently male-dominated industry and will explain the importance of role models for the next generation.
Terry Bennett, Training Manager at AIM Altitude, is the driving force behind the company’s apprentices becoming involved in these events. Terry said: “Ella and Serena are the first to have been chosen by the college to be the voice of female apprentices. They are already making us proud and are very committed to this project. Ella and Serena are proof of gender equality and that both men and women can have great futures in STEM.”
The event will feature presentations giving examples of different STEM careers and will provide a friendly introduction to local businesses and organisations offering STEM opportunities. For more information about this free event, visit:
